The history about the hotel Tychon
200 jears ago, Hermann Tychon married the widow Maria Elisabeth Rotheudt, who owned a little inn. The first mai of 1832, he bought a farm, that was near the busy street between the industrial cities Eupen en Aachen, directly at the "Barér" (comes from the french word "barrière" and is the turnpike at the border). At the turnpike the drivers hat to pay their taxes and for many of them it was a tradition to visit Hermann at the inn. The citizens of Eynatten have also spend much time at the counter and liked the special disches from Hermann and his wife.
After being a inn-keeper for 34 years, Hermann decided to pass on his work (on the first of mai 1866) to his son Léonard, who made a good job by turning the inn into a place where visitors of the neighbourcommunaties and Aachen met eachother. The rich companymenn of drapery factories made business Franssen from Eynatten (in front of the inn) and sometimes organised little parties.
In 1896 the third generation took over the inn. These times, peoples liked to dance. That´s why Léonard bild the dance hall, for about 600 peoples, on the first and also a few rooms on the second floor. On the 19th of june 1906 there was a celebration of new tramway Eupen-Eynatten-Aachen and the hotel got itself a tramstop. Hotel Tychon became a real cultural centre of the communaty, not only for the dance hall, but also because of the big stage for theatre-going.
In the beginning of the first world war, times were great, but after that there was a hard period. In the second world war the germans and after that the americans had their base at Tychons.
In the fifties Hugo Tychon and his wife Katharina took over the place as the fourth generation. The peoples slowly refound the way to Tychon. The wounds from the war were still not healed, but peoples tried to change this in their own way of living. The smoggling had begon and the succes of dealing had never reached such economic hights in these times.
With pride Leo Tychon, his wife Renate, the children and children in law Thomas, Katrin, Christian en Nick are running the business now.
